Residencies

Jon Edgar is artist in residence Oct 3-11, staying in the gardener's cottage in the walled garden (where the head gardener used to live in days gone by), and working there on a locally sourced lime ‘canvas' for a new relief carving.

Come and try YOUR hand with the tools and see what unfolds - he is influenced by place but does not preconceive imagery, believing that the outcome can be richer without it, and the journey more interesting.

He will also be working on clay portrait of a Herefordshire character, a guardian of the soil, which would echo an earlier work, A Portrait of Sussex (pic) of a farmer with a long history on the land.

Jon Edgar now lives in West Sussex but his first son was born in Herefordshire in a cottage next to a walled garden of the former Goodrich Court. He studied at the Frink School and has public carved works in both Guildford and Hindhead, Surrey and at Pulborough and Lewes, Sussex. He has been working on a new work on the South Downs at Slindon through 2015.

Workshops

‘An Understanding of Form - principles for making strong sculpture’ Conducted by Jon Edgar Oct 10th, 2-5pm Price: £40  Using various materials, a series of exercises devised from those at the former Frink School that would have been the sort of thing experienced by Moore and Hepworth as students, before conceptual art blurred the boundaries and took the emphasis away from form and mass.   Suitable equally for beginners or those with some experience

Other Workshops (wood carving, land art...) in the making: please come back!

Also, please suggest workshops you'd like to attend, on jenny@thecartshed.co.uk, thank you!
